The design is inspired by a stunning nineteenth century Indian dagger that can be found in the Royal Armouries’ collection. Along with its decorative scabbard, the dagger is one of the most stunning items in the Armouries’ entire collection, featuring a remarkable degree of artistry and craftsmanship. It is wrought from a complex interweaving of amethyst, braid, emerald, enamel, gold, steel, and velvet, and belongs to a class of dagger known as ‘peshkabz’ (meaning ‘fore-grip’ in Persian), which were specifically designed to penetrate mail armour.
