Viking Helmet – Coppergate
The Coppergate helmet is directly inspired by the famous helmet found in York Coppergate. Buried in a wood-lined pit along with antler, stone, glass and iron, this remarkable discovery was located close to the remains of Viking Settlers. The Coppergate helmet was soon reconstructed by the British Museum and brought back to life.
This reproduction has been authentically crafted from 18-gauge steel and worn brass, down the to the crest which reads IN NOMINE : DNI : NOSTRI : IHV : SCS : SPS : DI : ET : OMNIBVS : DECEMVS : AMEN: OSHERE : XPI , this translates to “In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and of the Spirit of God, let us offer up Oshere to All Saints. Amen”. Finishing details include a leather chin strap with an adjustable buckle and aventail chainmail which hangs at the rear.
