WWII Model Kit Mug – Thompson Submachine Gun
One of two mugs created as part of the Royal Armouries’ own WWII Model Kit range, this mug features some iconic weapons, including the Thompson Submachine Gun, which took on new life as a favourite of organised crime syndicates in the 1920s, but was later widely adopted by U.S. armed forces throughout World War Two.
Our Model Kit design is inspired by the museum’s gallery entitled ‘Firefight: The Second World War’, and features a handful of firearms from the era, highlighting the intense period of weapons manufacturing undertaken as all sides raced to outwit and outshoot their opponents. It is both a celebration of the immense efforts of ordinary labourers, and a solemn reminder of our capacity to turn innovation towards violence.
